Milan High School is launching a new support program called Reach Your Potential for students struggling in three or more of their classes and organizers are looking for adults in the community to act as mentors.

Students enrolled in the program show potential and motivation, but seem to need extra assistance to be successful, said Principal Ron Reed.
One of the components of the program is to provide each student with a community mentor and Milan High School is looking for enthusiastic adults in the community to serve as mentors. Mentors would be expected to attend study sessions once a week and help the student they're assigned to with goal setting.
The goal is to provide the student with a positive adult role model to help provide guidance and life skills. Initial training will be provided for the mentors regarding the mentor relationship.
"This is a great opportunity to help a student succeed," Reed said.
Students enrolled in the program will be required to attend after-school support sessions from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students will set short-term and long-term goals, be provided extra academic support, and literacy skills support.
The program officially begins Jan. 18.
