Council grants tax abatement to ACH plant
Automotive components company amends request from 12 years to two years for $36M

Automotive Components Holding LLC was given unanimous approval for a two-year, $36 million industrial facilities tax exemption by the Milan City Council Monday night.

The tax abatement was requested for equipment to support new vehicle programs at the plant.
Before the vote, Della DiPietro, a spokeswoman for ACH, asked the council to consider an amended request for a two-year term.
Originally, the company had asked for a 12-year abatement, and the request was tabled by the City Council in July following a public hearing.
Jennifer Owens of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. said the abatement was "critical to encourage Flex-N-Gate, to purchase the company and to show that Milan is a business-friendly community."
Flex-N-Gate has facilities in Battle Creek and Royal Oak and is in negotiations to buy the Milan ACH facility.
The Milan plant employs about 600 people.
Council member Brett Moyer said the council was in agreement to extend the length of the abatement to new owners of the plant if a request is made.
