A Milan police officer made a traffic stop at 5:45 p.m. May 6 after watching a vehicle pull out of a store parking lot northbound onto Anderson Street, accelerating quickly and squealing its tires for nearly 60 feet.
The driver was issued a citation for careless driving and an information check showed that a misdemeanor warrant issued for charges of assault was outstanding from the Ann Arbor Police Department. The man was arrested and lodged in Milan until he was picked up by Ann Arbor police.
Possession of Marijuana
Police arrived at a residence on St. Louis Street at about 1:30 p.m. May 7 after receiving a report of someone in possession of marijuana. The caller was a mother who had noticed her son coming home with new shoes and video games despite the fact he doesn't have a job or other source of income.
Suspecting he might have been dealing drugs, she searched his room and found a baggie of suspected marijuana, cigarettes and chewing tobacco, all of which was turned over to police.
The mother said she wanted the son to be able to get help. After a test confirmed that the substance taken from the room was indeed marijuana, the case was sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office for review and a possible warrant.
Domestic Assault
Milan police responded at 9 p.m. May 7 to a call reporting domestic assault at a residence on Bodily Crescent. A girl living at the residence told police she had been asked by her father to change her little brother's diaper. When she couldn't find a new diaper and asked the father where one might be, an argument ensued.
The girl told police her father pushed her and she pushed back, after which her father struck her twice in the face and choked her.
The girl was able to flee into the bathroom and call 911. Officers confirmed on arrival that the girl had suffered a bloody lip and had redness on her cheek and neck.
The man, who had previously been arrested on domestic violence-related charges, was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
