Milan JV still perfect

PUBLISHED: May 1, 2008

The Milan junior varsity baseball team remains undefeated at 11-0 after taking out St. Mary Catholic Central 10-9, Monroe Jefferson 11-1, New Boston Huron 8-6 and sweeping Salem 5-3, 13-3.

Grant Karr got the win over SMCC. The game was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the sixth when the Big Reds scored three runs to go up 6-3. The Falcons came back to score six runs in the top of the seventh, but Milan loaded the bases with one out and Jason Tackett hit a bases-clearing double to knot the game at 9-9.

One batter later, with one out, Eric Harrison pulled off a suicide squeeze to bring in the winning run from third. Catcher Drew Harper threw out two runners to get Milan out of jams in the fourth and seventh innings.

In the 11-1 win over the Bears, Cody O'Keefe had a triple and a double and came through big again in the 5-3 win over Salem with a bases-loaded triple in the sixth that put Milan ahead. Pitcher Barry Bock got the win over Jefferson and Phil Grimmete earned the win over Salem.

In the 13-3 victory in the Salem nightcap, Karr, Grimmete and Joe Dunn each had two hits to secure the win for Chaz Poindexter.

Karr got his second win of the week and Bock earned a save in Milan's 8-6 edging of New Boston Huron.

The Big Reds went up 4-0 in the second on timely hitting and smart base running, but gave the lead up in the third when New Boston scored four. In the top of the fifth, Milan pulled ahead for good, scoring twice. New Boston got within one run in the sixth, but Bock came in and struck out the last four batters to get the save.
