The group, which has been active in providing free health education for Milan and area residents over the years, is hosting two spring meetings.
The informative conferences are free to the public. Registration is appreciated, as refreshments will be served. Call 439-8420 to sign up for the conference.
Simon Evans will speak on how the lifestyle choices of nutrition, physical and mental activity, adequate sleep and attitude, affect the health of the brain.
Special focus on the recipe required for lifelong body and brain fitness will be shared.
Evans believes the brain is a very special organ. It's the control center for our emotions, intelligence and spirituality, but it still plays by all the same physical health rules as the heart and lungs, he said.
Focusing on strategies for brain fitness will boost overall health, longevity and mental clarity and reduce stress, anxiety, as well as depression, he said.
Evans is a neuroscience researcher at the University of Michigan, studying the interaction between nutrition, exercise and mental health. He holds a doctorate in molecular biology and has been studying the affects of stress on the brain for over 10 years (see Milan News-Leader, April 12 issue for a story on Evans' new book).
The second mini conference on "Prevention of Falls in the Elderly" will be held 6:30 p.m. May 24 at the same location.
