For Linnie Mae Scott, during the last four years, spring has sprung the day the Christmas in Action team visited her Saline home bringing tools, flats of flowers, rakes and shovels.

One year, the volunteers laid new carpet and worked on some needed plumbing repairs at her home. Another year, there were problems with the home's electrical system. And, every year, she and her late husband, J.B., would enjoy watching the crew brighten the yard with annual flowers and tidy the landscaping.
This year, Scott will again welcome volunteers with Christmas in Action, who will not be visiting her home, but instead will be planting a flower box outside the window of her nursing home room.
"She was just moved to the bed next to the window, so I know she'll enjoy the day and watching the flowers through the year," said her daughter, Wanda Beard.
Each year, Christmas in Action volunteers in Milan and Saline spend one Saturday in April reaching out to elderly and low-income homeowners in the community by providing help with needed home repairs and projects.
Traditionally, two to three homes get a facelift each year as workers spruce up residences inside and out.
"We are looking for volunteers for the day of the event. (We ask them) to please consider giving a gift of your time for this community outreach program," said Kathy Kind, one of the project's coordinators.
The day begins with a free hearty breakfast for volunteers at 8 a.m. In Saline, breakfast will be served at the American Legion and in Milan at the fire department. Volunteers will be assigned to projects at that time.
Volunteer forms are due Monday and are available in Milan at city office, Milan Area Chamber of Commerce and can be downloaded from www.milanneighbors.com or www.milanchamber.org.
In Saline, forms can be found at City Hall, Saline Social Services, Saline Area Chamber of Commerce and the Saline Senior Center.
