National Library Week is going on through April 19. To help celebrate, the Saline District Library will offer two sessions of Bingo for Books. Children in second grade and higher can play bingo from 4:15 to 5 p.m. April 17 in the Youth Department Program Room at Liberty School. Registration is under way.
Friday, April 18
Saline Area Chamber of Commerce will present the Saline Salutes community awards program 5:30 p.m. at the Saline High School Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center. The public is invited. Cost is $22 per person. Attendees should enter the Performing Arts Center entrance east of the high school. "Mother's Day Surprise" will be offered by Saline Community Education. The fee for the craft class is $17. The program is for students in kindergarten through fourth grades. Register by calling 429-8000.

Building Business Relationships Breakfast will be held 7:30 a.m. at Brecon Village, 200 Brecon Drive, in Saline. It's sponsored by the Small Business Association of Michigan. The Washtenaw County Solid Waste Program is holding a regional environmental clean-up day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saline Department of Works. It will be a drop off that will accept recyclable materials, appliances, household hazard waste, furniture, tires and electronic equipment. There is a suggested donation of $10 and additional donations for more than one appliance or more than four tires. This collection program is only for Washtenaw County residents. Household garbage will not be accepted. City of Saline Patrick J. Little Public Works facility is located at 1234 Tefft Court.

The Annual Kiwanis Baby Shower will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Milan Senior Center. All items will be sent to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Items needed include disposable cameras, bubbles, journals, gel pens, school supplies, crayons, markers, colored pencils, stickers, CDs, Band-Aids, knitting needles, white pillow cases, white T-shirts all sizes, games all ages, stuffed animals, Beanie Babies, DVDs, trauma dolls, action figures, craft kits, phone cards, UNO cards, books, assorted paint brushes and gift cards.

Family Fun Day, featuring a fundraiser, will take place at Immaculate Conception Church in the Fr. Joseph Strzelewicz Family Center in Milan. Food, children's games, merchandise and 10 cash prizes will be offered. The value of the cash prizes will range from $3,500 to $500. Tickets are $50 each. The Milan's Woman's Club is offering a $500 education scholarship to an area student. To be eligible, an applicant must graduate in the Milan High School class of 2008, or be enrolled in an accredited school, or plan to continue higher education at an accredited school.
