And they have a plaque to prove it.
The Michigan High School Football Coaches' Association earlier this month named the Big Reds a Division 4 Academic All-State team based on a team grade-point average of 3.848.
Milan placed fourth out of 18 teams nominated in Division 4, behind Alma (3.957) Spring Lake (3.910) and Clintondale (3.868).
"We're real proud of these guys," said head football coach Steve Robb. "They all did a nice job."
It's the first year that Milan has received the honor.
"We've been near the top before," said Robb, who used to chair the association's academic committee, "but this is the first time we've been in the top four."
The academic all-state award is designed to recognize teams who maintain high academic performance during the off-season and to promote an emphasis on academics year-round.
"All coaches obviously monitor their players' grades during the season," said Robb, "but this award is to encourage coaches to monitor their players during the off-season, as well."
The team GPA was calculated based on the GPAs of each team's top 11 academic players.
The Big Reds drew on the academic performances of Anthony Durbin (4.0), Will Farrar (4.0), Matt Chapin (3.95), Garrett Gimson (3.90), Lyle Tomaszewski (3.90), Zach McGovern (3.86), Scott Kenyon (3.81), Matt Drewyor (3.81), Lance Smith (3.76), Mike Spence (3.67) and Thom Box (3.67).
Kenyon also received honorable mention on the Individual Academic All-State team.
