The event raises funds for the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter.
"Thousands of families in Washtenaw County turn to the Alzheimer's Association each year for help and hope and we need the entire community behind us if we are to meet the increasing need for services in our community," said Elizabeth Longley, president and CEO of the chapter.
"Each year, we're challenged to raise 95 percent of our operating expenses and the funds raised at this event will go a long way toward supporting local programs for people affected by Alzheimer's disease."
The party, marking its second year, promises to be a great evening of family fun, food, fabulous music by the MannaFest Band, and live and silent auctions, Longley says.
Lucy Ann Lance, a longtime supporter of the organization, will serve as emcee.
Guests will find themselves at Florida's Daytona Beach racing scene, with a volunteer pit crew, a "racetrack" of food prepared on site by local chefs, and one-of-a-kind racing memorabilia.
Racing fans will especially love the great cars and racing memorabilia that will be on display, and will be able to bid on auction items that include racing jerseys, and rear panels, nose and front fenders from racing cars. Roush Fenway Racing, NASCAR's largest team operating 14 motorsports teams, has donated a one-of-a-kind collectors' item, an actual deck lid from the car of Greg Biffle No. 16, signed by Jack Roush.
"Area residents will definitely want to attend and check out all the great items we have to offer ...," Longley said.
Clear Creek Farms is offering a certificate worth more than $100 for organic and free-range meats and the Palmer Ford dealership in Chelsea is donating a 2003 T-Bird convertible rental.
Also up for grabs are tickets to the Detroit Grand Prix; Arizona Sunshine Tours; a five-night stay in Orlando, Fla.; a pace car ride at Michigan International Speedway; iPod Nano; private tour at the Detroit Institute of Arts; Zingerman's Cooking School; Argos Solar Birdbaths; artwork and paintings; a glider ride at the Sandhill Soaring Club, and much more.
"The community has embraced our Summer Somewhere fund-raiser and we are grateful for the generous support we have received from our corporate sponsors and dedicated volunteers," Longley said.
"More than 200 people turned out for the event last year and we hope to attract even more supporters this year. Isn't everyone ready for a dose of summer in the midst of the cold and snowy winter we're having this year?"
"I encourage everyone to join us for a fun evening -- your participation will make a difference."
