In addition to the satisfaction of having saved a life, Milan Police Sgt. Tim Casey now has a plaque recognizing his effort.

The Washtenaw County Law Enforcement and Industrial Security Association presented Casey an appreciation plaque at a dinner where he was the guest of honor last month.
"This is just another example of the level of commitment and training that our police officers in Milan provide to our citizenry," Milan Police Chief Jeff Lewis said of Casey.
In October, Casey was dispatched along with the Milan Area Fire Department to a home on First Street, where he found 49-year-old Mary Culver lying on the floor near the dinner table.
Culver was unresponsive, not breathing, and was blue in color after choking on some food.
Casey promptly performed the Heimlich maneuver, or abdominal thrusts, to dislodge the food.
Culver, who was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, made a full recovery.
"If it were not for the quick actions of Officer Casey, I don't think Mrs. Culver would have had such a positive outcome," said Capt. Sean Jenkins of the Milan Area Fire Department, characterizing Casey's actions as "heroic."
It is the second county-wide award Milan police officers have garnered in three months.
The Washtenaw 100 Club, an organization of area business people, who support active police officers and firefighters in Washtenaw County, recently named Justo Burgos its Law Enforcement Officer of the Year last November.
