PAUL EASTERLING JR.

London Township

Paul Easterling Jr., 70, of London Township died Jan. 27, 2007, at Superior Woods in Ypsilanti with his loving family by his side. He was born Oct. 13, 1936, in Tallahasse, Miss., to Paul and Lillian (Patterson) Easterling.

Mr. Easterling married Gloria Joplin in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives.

Mr. Easterling worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in food service until 1988. He enjoyed working on cars, carpentry, nature, gardening and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle Easterling of Taylor; a son, Paul Easterling II of Milan; one brother, Christopher (LaDonna) Easterling of Ypsilanti; a father-in-law, Lonzo Joplin of Milan; six grandchildren, Brandon Couch of Ann Arbor, Gary Couch Jr., Nia and Shaquille Couch, all of Taylor, and Jordan and Lauryn Bishop, both of Milan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was Friday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan.

A funeral was held Saturday at Bethlehem Temple in Milan. District Elder Lester Whaley officiated. Burial was at London Cemetery.

PHILIP HAROLD WEST

Saline

Harold Philip West, 83, of Saline died Feb. 3, 2007, with his family at his side. He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Ann Arbor, the son of Arthel and Nellie (Smith) West.

Mr. West, a graduate of Ann Arbor High School, was a dedicated community servant.

On April 17, 1948, he married Phyllis Holland, in Hartland, and she survives.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in England for 15 months as a corpsman with the 22nd General Hospital Group. He was a proud member of VFW Post 423, the United Methodist Church of Saline and the Saline Community Fair Board.

Mr. West served as Scoutmaster of Troop 446 in Saline for 33 years. During that time, he mentored 35 young men as they became Eagle Scouts. He continued his involvement with Scouts throughout his life, attending his last Scout event in December 2006.

Mr. West was excited to be honored as the grand marshal of the Saline Community Fair Parade in 2004. For many years, he was employed at the Saline A & P store as the dairy manager.

Mr. West was a loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather, excited great-grandfather, and beloved brother and uncle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, of 58 years; two children, Ronald (Vicki) of Fenton and Peggy (Mac) Whitford of Oak Harbor, Wa.; three grandchildren, Andrew (Michelle) of Moore, Okla., Daniel (Andrea) of Lindenhurst, Ill., and Rebecca West of Ann Arbor; three great-grandchildren, Jacob West, Kaitlyn West and Juliana Weiss; his sister, Ethel Fritts; three brothers; Ralph (Marilyn), Roger (Ruth) and Gerald; 18 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Duane; his brother-in-law, Harold Fritts; and sister-in-law, Lois West.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Saline First United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Tuttle will officiate. Burial will take place at Lodi Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

The family has established the Harold West Memorial Eagle Scout Project Fund to assist young men in accomplishing their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 446, c/o Bob Heskett, 364 Hillcrest Drive, Saline, MI 48176.

Arrangements were by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.
