The event will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Saline Senior Center, 7190 North Maple Road. Area residents will be able to pick the brains of local attorneys for half an hour, free of charge and with no obligation. All legal matters may be discussed and all ages are welcome, not just senior citizens.
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments also may be scheduled by calling the Washtenaw County Bar Association at 994-4912 beginning Tuesday.
The Lawyers' Road Show has been held for a number of years as a way for the Washtenaw County Bar Association to serve the community. Held in different locations across the county each year, Saline was chosen for the first time this year.
Saline resident Frank Weir, a member of the county bar's public service committee, is helping to organize the event.
"The idea is that bar members volunteer two hours to give free legal advice to anyone for 30 minutes," Weir said. "It's hard to predict how many attorneys will be at the center at any given time since they come and go based on their schedules that day, but usually there are six or eight or so.
"I thought the senior center would be an ideal central location and I know the seniors would love to have the opportunity to talk with a lawyer. They usually have estate planning questions and especially advance health directive, and power of attorney questions, but everyone in the community, regardless of income, age or legal question, is invited to either make an appointment ahead of time, or just show up."
The attorneys want to give something back to the community, Weir said.
Pam Molascon, the senior center's recreation and enrichment specialist, said members of the center are looking forward to the event.
"We're happy to host the Lawyers' Road Show, and look forward to meeting members of our community," she said.
