Talent in the Milan School District doesn't exist solely on the gridiron or the basketball court. Much of it exists on the stage.

Many consider the Milan Performing Arts program one of the best-kept secrets in town, and those involved hope this spring will put the local theater on the map.
"We've never had this much stuff going on at once," said Brad McNett, a senior member of the Milan High School Drama Club. "I really can't wait."
Director Lisa Goerlitz says the spring will be very busy for her and the rest of the drama department as the students put on a showcase, fund-raising dinner and spring musical.
Goerlitz said it was her goal this year to showcase students' unrecognized abilities, so the theater's first event of the spring will be a showcase titled "Sideshow." Much of it is a mystery, but don't expect a talent show, Goerlitz said. The production will showcase the hidden cinematic, musical and other talents of the students.
Soon after "Sideshow" makes its debut, the theater program will put on its second annual "Evening with the Arts." The event will include a dinner prepared and served at Main Street IX in Milan, a silent auction, as well as several musical and dramatic acts from the high school's performing arts programs.
Last year, more than $2,000 was raised at the event.
The 1950s-themed event will be held 6 p.m. March 11. Tickets may be reserved by calling 439-5045. To donate an item for the silent auction, e-mail Paula Kartje at kartje@umich.edu.
The drama club will cap off the school year with a production of "Grease" in the spring. Tryouts will begin this week. The show will run April 27 through 29 and May 4 through 6.
