The Big Reds suffered a pair of defeats to Huron League leaders Grosse Ile and St. Mary Catholic Central, falling 77-36 on the road Thursday against the Red Devils and 45-27 Tuesday night at home to the Falcons.

As they had done against Flat Rock's Devon Crain in a previous game, the Big Reds did a solid defensive job on a Huron star in holding Grosse Ile leading scorer Lonnie Pugh to only 10 points.
But nearly everything else went wrong for Milan, starting with the opening tip as the Red Devils scored the first 16 points of the game before freshman DeAndre Mitchell scored the Big Reds' only basket of the first quarter.
Milan would trail by 14 after the opening period and 34-13 at halftime despite five second-quarter points from Brandon Duval. The lead would grow by four to 50-25 after the Red Devils outscored Milan 16-12 in the third, and a 27-point fourth quarter by the home team gave them the final margin.
Zach McGovern led the Big Reds with a team-high eight points, followed by Duval with seven, Erik Gunderson with five, Mitchell and Demetries Love with four each, Paul Irwin and Joe Ewer with three each, and Lance Smith with two.
The Big Reds received another blow after the game when Gunderson, the Big Reds' 6-foot-8 junior center, was ruled out for the rest of the season with a lingering back injury. With backup center Cody Chatfield also likely lost for the season, Milan JV players Andy Kuck and Mike Craig have since been added to the Big Red varsity roster to help with the team's frontcourt depth.
The losses were Milan's fourth and fifth straight since the team's only win of the season, at New Boston Huron Jan. 17, dropping the Big Reds to 1-14 on the year.
Milan will look to grab its elusive second win on the road Friday at Jefferson before returning home for a battle against Dundee Monday.
