Students raise money for needy

Milan High School freshmen raised $1,762 this year for a Milan family in need during the holidays.

They beat last year's total by more than $500.
The freshmen participated in the second annual "Jar Wars" competition in which students bring in change for their advisory classes. Each class has a jar that is out at lunchtime and students can add to each other's jars.
Pennies are positive points and all silver coins and dollars are negative points. The goal is to end up with the most positive points by the end of the week.
Last year, the freshmen class raised $1,200 for a family. The families are chosen by school social worker Holly Fiedler. With all of the money collected, the freshmen teachers went shopping for the family.
