Twice.
The Big Reds crushed Grosse Ile 65-12 and Pinckney 69-6. Milan didn't lose a single match against Pinckney, which got its six points on a void at 112.
Coach Gary Jonseck said he was not surprised by Milan's domination.
"Grosse Ile and Pinckney are in rebuilding stages," said Jonseck. "I expected us to do well."
Winning two matches for Milan were Jacob Nelson (145), Jarryd Gotts (160), Josh Pegouskie (189), Sean Domas (215), David Box (285), Dan Vivian (119), Cody O'Keefe (125), Isaac Smith (140), Aaron Householder (152) and Jamie Gruber (135).
Aaris Gruber (103) and Travis Turk (130) each posted a win against Pinckney.
The victories extended Milan's dual record to 12-8.
At the Monroe County Sheriff's Tournament Saturday, the Big Reds finished eighth with 84 points, beating Ida, St. Mary Catholic Central, Erie Mason and Gibraltar Carlson. Dundee took first with 275 points, 23 points ahead of Bedford.
"I think we had a strong performance," said Jonseck, who said he was impressed with Jacob Nelson's efforts in particular.
"Jacob had a great day," Jonseck said. "He's at the point in the season when his timing and everything is coming together."
The sophomore dropped down from wrestling at 152 pounds to the 145 weight class. He came into the tournament seeded ninth and finished fourth, beating two state qualifiers for the spot. His record on the year is now 16-8 with 30 career wins.
Milan's top finisher at the sheriff's tournament was Josh Pegouskie, who has had a barnstormer of a year so far. Wrestling at 171, Pegouskie finished second.
"He wrestled real solid until the finals when he ran into a state runner-up from last year," Jonseck said.
Pegouskie leads the team with 19 wins. Last year, he had only eight.
"He's really turned it on," Jonseck said.
Along with Nelson, Gotts (160) and Domas (215) finished fourth at the tourney and Ben Snider (189) took sixth.
"Gotts and Domas wrestled extremely well," Jonseck said. "They got behind but didn't get flustered and came back to win."
Dan Vivian (119) and Isaac Smith (140) won matches but did not place.
The bad news coming out of the tournament was a likely season-ending injury suffered by David Box (285), who shattered his pelvic girdle during a match. Jonseck said he could be out up to six weeks. The sophomore had a winning record of 16-6 going into Saturday.
"He's an outstanding individual," Jonseck said of Box. "I know this is hard on him and his family right now."
Jonseck said his team's 12-8 record is about where he expected to be at this point in the season.
"The next three weeks will be the key for us," he said.
