In only its second year of existence, the Milan bowling program continues to prove popular, boasting a roster of nearly 40 bowlers.

"We had a big turnout again this year," said coach Melanie Wilson. "It's a diverse crowd. It's kind of neat to see people who might not normally hang out together get together and compete."
The Big Reds are playing independent this season. Last year, Milan competed in the Washawee Conference, which combined schools from Washtenaw and Lenawee Counties. The conference was broken up, leaving Milan in the Huron League, which doesn't sanction bowling.
The change has proved beneficial for Milan, which has more games scheduled this year - and, specifically, more home games.
The Big Reds opened the season strong with two wins in a scrimmage against Saline. The varsity boys squad won 19-11 and the JV team pulled off a 21-9 victory.
High scores went to David McPherson, who bowled a 198 and Jack Clark, with a 191.
The JV girls lost 22-8.
Milan went on to drop a pair of matches to Flat Rock. The varsity boys fell 21-9 and the varsity girls went down 28-2.
Jamie Barnett bowled a high of 147 for the girls while McPherson put in another strong performance to lead the boys with a 237. Matt McIntosh and Rocky Garcia also bowled well with scores of 236 and 205, respectively.
In their third match of the season, the Big Reds suffered three losses at the hands of the Chelsea Bulldogs. The varsity boys fell 19-11, the varsity girls lost 20-10, and the JV boys dropped a close one 16-14.
Brittanie Diver bowled a 162 to lead the girls. Jacob Varney (243) and Garcia (233) led the varsity boys. Collin Verner bowled a 150 for the JV squad.
